Engineering Design

Structural and mechanical design for the assets operations depend on, from a single modification through to new plant. Every design is analysed properly and signed by a registered engineer.

Overview

We design the assets that operations depend on, from a single modification through to new plant. That includes structures and platforms, material handling systems such as conveyors, chutes and bins, and the mechanical plant used across industries like mining. Every design is signed by a registered engineer who takes responsibility for it, and complies with the Australian or international standards the project calls for, typically AS 4100, AS/NZS 1170, AS 3990 and AS 3600.

Where structural or mechanical behaviour is not obvious, we use finite element analysis to understand it properly rather than fall back on conservative assumptions. The result is safe, reliable designs, optimised to avoid the cost and weight of over-conservative over-design.

How we work

  1. 01
RequirementsWe gather and agree your requirements: the loads, standards, interfaces and constraints the design has to satisfy.
  2. 02
ConceptWe develop a concept and validate it with you, comparing options against cost, constructability and risk.
  3. 03
Analyse and designWe analyse the design, using FEA where the load path warrants it, and carry it through basic and detailed design.
  4. 04
DocumentationWe produce the engineering reports, calculations and drawings, signed by a registered engineer.

Common questions

Who designs conveyors and material handling structures for Australian mining operations?
Mincka Engineering designs conveyors, chutes, bins and the supporting structures used across Australian mining and heavy industry, signed by a registered engineer. Every design complies with the standards the project calls for, typically AS 4100, AS/NZS 1170 and AS 3990. Where structural or mechanical behaviour is not obvious, we use finite element analysis to understand it properly rather than fall back on conservative assumptions.
Do you provide finite element analysis for structural and mechanical design?
Yes. We use finite element analysis wherever the load path warrants it, to understand real behaviour and produce designs optimised to avoid the cost and weight of over-design. FEA sits inside the design process rather than as a separate add-on, carried through from concept to detailed design and signed by a registered engineer.
Can you design modifications to existing plant without full drawings?
Yes. We design modifications and upgrades to existing plant, from a single change through to new equipment, supported by field measurement where original drawings are missing or out of date. We measure the asset as it actually is, model it, and produce calculations and drawings signed by a registered engineer.
